echina, a six-week introductory program, is designed for the curious and inquisitive Jewish woman, with little or no background in Judaic studies. Mechina strengthens Jewish identity through Jewish education, and demonstrates the relevance of Judaism in today’s world.
Mechina students tackle life’s toughest personal, philosophical and theological issues in a sensitive and thoughtful environment. A spirit of open exchange permeates the classroom where the students are encouraged to question. All topics are open for discussion.
Mechina offers its participants the opportunity to interact personally with some of the most stimulating teachers in the Jewish world today. Additionally, students can schedule one-on-one meetings with their teachers or even arrange personal tutorials where they can learn more about any area of Jewish studies that interests them. Ulpan Hebrew language classes are available as well.
The classes are held on Neve Yerushalayim’s magnificent, six-acre, mountaintop campus in Jerusalem, only a bus ride away from the inspiring Western Wall (Kotel) and the bustling downtown shopping and historic districts. The program includes tours and trips throughout Israel.
Mechina is offered on a continuous, year-round basis. Individual start and stop dates may be arranged upon request. The Mechina program during the summer coincides with college vacation schedules. Students who complete the Mechina program may continue their studies in the multi-level Neve Program.
Tuition for Mechina includes dormitory living and all meals. Need based Financial Aid is available.
Rabbi Eliezer Liff is director of the Mechina program and is available to answer questions about the program.
